Michael O’Shea Memorial

Michael O’Shea passed away on August 21st 2018 after losing his battle with cancer. Michael was 38 years old when he passed away and he left behind him his wife, a young toddler daughter, as well as his parents, sister, brother and extended family and friends. His untimely passing shocked and devastated everyone in football circles throughout Clare and indeed throughout Ireland.

Michael’s club, St Senan’s Kilkee, who he represented with such distinction for so many years, will host a Senior inter-county football challenge match between Clare and Galway on Saturday April 25th in Kilkee in memory of Michael who also starred for Clare for many years. All funds raised will go to the West Clare Cancer Centre in Kilkee, and Regina House Palliative Care, Kilrush.

Miltown Malbay GAA would like to invite all our members of the club, community and friends from neighbouring parishes to join us in our fundraising initiative to support local charities that are suffering in this current climate. We are hoping to reach a target of €4000 by doing 1000km weekly up to June 1st. This is to be done while operating within the current 2km guidelines that are in place.  You can take part by walking, running, cycling, using a treadmill or stationary bike in order to help us reach our distance target. Post your weekly distance covered on social media using #westclare1000 so we can track our goal Looking forward to seeing the km and the Euro marks being reach weekly (every little helps) Let’s get moving for our local charities!!

CLARE LADIES FOOTBALL CHALLENGE #Ditchtheboots

Clare Ladies Football Team are running a charity event in order to raise funds for 4 very worthy charities. These include, West Clare Cancer Centre, Pieta, Clare Cystic Fibrosis & the Doing it for Dan appeal ☺️

The event the players and management are undertaking is a 1000km combined distance run between Monday 27th of April and Sunday 3rd of May, all while staying within a 2km radius of their home 🏃‍♀️ Each day the players will put up their distance covered and some videos/photos showing them taking part in the challenge 📷

How to join your county team & #DitchTheBoots for Charity:

We are asking players involved at all levels throughout the week and so we are nominating Wednesday coming as a #ClubJerseyDay. With this we are asking each club to get their players/juveniles involved in running/walking on the day with their club colours on and to upload their videos/photos to us on Instagram/twitter/Facebook with the hashtag #ditchtheboots. 👟

We would also ask that you promote the fundraiser on each of your own social media accounts and Whats app groups!

On Thursday we are asking all our county juvenile teams to also get involved in a similar way with videos posted up of their various runs 💛💙

As a group we feel this is a great opportunity to not only raise funds for some much needed causes but also to highlight the wonderful players we have in our county whilst also lifting the profile of each club and county team.

🌟🌟Over to you – Please donate as much as you can to help out the four charities we have chosen via the link:

a time for change!

THE ROUTE MAY HAVE CHANGED BUT THE GOAL REMAINS THE SAME!
The only constant in life is change and while the route for the Annual West Clare Mini Marathon has changed to the coast road walk in Kilkee, the goal of raising funds for the retention of cancer care services in West Clare remains the same, and the work to achieve that goal goes on.

YOU ALL PLAY SUCH A HUGE PART – WE HOPE YOU WILL AGAIN!

Huge thanks to to everybody who took part in the 21st Annual West Clare Mini Marathon on Sunday 27th January last, for your goodwill, tireless efforts, and commitment and dedication to the retention of vital cancer care services for the people of West Clare – year in and year out – we could not do this without you.

We applaud and acknowledge our ‘West Clare Cancer Centre family’ for your unremitting, unrelenting, deep-rooted desire to keep this ship afloat in the midst of emigration, economic downturn and the everyday trials and tribulations that face us all.
What has been achieved over the past 21 years because of your inherent goodness is truly remarkable. The lifeblood of any organisation is it’s footsoldiers, so we say ‘thank you’ to each and everyone of you, for your tireless efforts as we continue our campaign against cancer, together.

MOTHER & DAUGHTER DUO BRIGID & ROISIN

HERE COME THE GIRLS………………………..
A BIG SHOUT-OUT TO Brigid Crawford and her daughter Róisín Ní Eithir, Lisdoonvarna, as they ready themselves to join over 30,000 females in Dublin on Sunday June 2nd in the 37th Annual VHI Women’s Mini Marathon. Our ultra-glamorous mother and daughter duo are participating in the event to raise funds for the West Clare Mini Marathon Cancer Care Centre and we are very grateful to them. Brigid and Roisin will have sponsorship cards for people wishing to contribute to their fundraising efforts.

The 10K event, which commences at 2pm, will start in Fitzwilliam Square and finish in Baggot Street.
The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is the largest all women’s event of its kind in the world. The first Women’s Mini Marathon began in Dublin in 1983 with 9,000 entrants, it has grown in popularity and the event now hosts approximately 30,000 women on the June bank holiday weekend. Women from across the 32 counties of Ireland, U.K. and Europe take part each year to raise vital funds for their chosen charities and causes.

The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is a world class sporting event and is dedicated to helping women across Ireland to achieve their fitness goals. The mini-marathon has become an important part of Irish culture and a celebration for Irish women age 14 to 65 and over. The event caters for women who wish to walk or jog for fun while also catering for competitive runners.

Indeed, it is not only women who have benefited from the event, but the charities are also the big winners. In 2018 it is estimated that over €7.5 million was raised by the participants bringing the total since the race started in 1983 to over €217 million. All charities benefit as it is the women themselves who decide who they will support and many local causes gain vital revenue from the event.
